Changing the Communication Flow at a Water Company

In our latest case study, we look back at how we were able to address critical communication challenges across our customers’ sites. Our client maintain hundreds of sites that include sewage treatment works, water treatment works and sewage pumping stations, which, luckily for the general public, are in hard to reach rural areas. However, as you would expect in these areas, there is little to no mobile signal. With no mobile signal available, staff were unable to make calls or use essential apps, for instance the Welfare app that let supervisors know that lone workers flag emergenices to supervisors, which posed significant safety and operational risks. With any type of call being a no-go; the solution was for lone workers to drive up to 20 miles down the road to send and receive updates with management. That’s where T4S were able to help. We provided comprehensive coverage on every single site; now lone workers are confident they can stay connected with colleagues and stay safe in the event of an accident.

Our innovative approach provided our customer with a robust and reliable communication network, tailored to their unique needs.

Overcoming Communication Barriers

Due to the nature of the work, our customers’ staff often work alone, and travel from site to site in a company van. Due to where the sites are located, these jouneys would typically be in areas without great coverage.

Now, thanks to T4S installing the T4S Vehicle Hub in over 130 vehicles, lone workers are connected throughout the day. This means teams can be more dynamic with allocating resources as workforce management apps can be updated without workers having to “find signal”. Not to mention, thanks to the T4S Portal, supervisors are able to track locations in real time, making it easy to re-allocate jobs to the nearest person.

Project Outcomes

Enhanced Productivity and Communication

The implementation of our WiFi solution at Thames Water sites led to remarkable improvements in both productivity and communication. With reliable WiFi coverage, staff could now make and receive calls effortlessly, eliminating the need for time-consuming trips offsite. The ability to use the Welfare app onsite significantly enhanced safety measures, allowing staff to promptly alert management in emergencies. Furthermore, the introduction of WiFi-enabled Teams calls facilitated better collaboration and coordination among team members. The project not only streamlined operations but also ensured that staff could work efficiently and securely, ultimately contributing to a more productive work environment.

What Our Clients Say

“In our business we have many remote sites where engineers are often work alone, Smart-Hubs have given us efficiencies by allowing check-ins via Wi-Fi calling and other applications at site rather than driving off to make calls. It also means engineers have access to manuals and online data systems while working.”

“The business has also installed Smart-Hubs at larger sites where existing signal is poor to cover the operational areas and provide a resiliency in service.
T4S have been an excellent installer, working with our teams to meet safety and site access requirements. Once a process was in place they were able to work essentially on their own taking fewer project resources to manage.”
